naturally in mussels or oysters. When a foreign
object enters these molluscs, they create many layers
of nacre and thus create the lovely shimmering surface
we see in pearls called the orient. When judging
the quality of the pearl you should consider the
iridescence of the pearl, the lustre and the colour.
Nowadays most pearls are cultured. The types of
pearl in our collection include the freshwater,
Akoya, South Sea, Mabe and Tahitian pearls. They
can vary from perfectly round pearls to baroque
shaped pearls.
