BLACK OPAL
The rarest and most valuable of all Opals is the
Black Opal which can be found in Lightning Ridge
in NSW. These precious Opals depict a play of colour
unlike any other gemstone and are characteristically
dark in colour with flashes of various other colours.
WHITE OR LIGHT OPAL
White Opals are found mainly in South Australia
and are perhaps the most common of all precious
Opals. They have a white milky background ranging
to almost translucent with a play of colours including
red, green or blue.
BOULDER OPAL
Boulder Opals are mainly found in Queensland and
have a similar appearance to Black Opal, however
they form naturally on ironstone or ¡°boulder¡±. Often
Boulder Opals are cut with their ironstone as part
of a solid piece.
DOUBLETS OR TRIPLETS
Doublets and triplets are layered Opals. Doublets
have two handcrafted layers consisting of a layer
of dark Opal, with ironstone backing. Triplets have
three layers, onyx on the bottom layer, an Opal
layer in the middle and a crystal cover on the top
which also protects the stone.
At Reverie, all our Opals come with a Certificate
of Authenticity and our staff would be delighted
to help you choose an Opal that fits within your
budget and heart¡¯s desire.
